Here is an excellent resource for more information on Daily 5 and The CAFE', all created by actual sisters, Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.  They have created for literacy "a structure for fostering literacy independence in the elementary grades."  Similar to literacy centers, incorporating Daily 5 into one's literacy block has the potential to do the following:  1. Increase the amount of uninterrupted teacher:student interactions, whether through guided reading/small group skill and strategy instruction or 1:1 intense review and instruction time. 2. Increase student independence and responsibility for learning & working during independent literacy time. It is believe that because the work is assigned is more authentic, it has a greater potential to increase student growth AND engagement.   Note:  Daily 5 does not replace good literacy instruction but actually enhances what has been taught during whole group and small group instruction.

I am so excited that tomorrow begins the Summer book study.  You can find information on the book study at  We Read, We Blog, We Teach.  Here is a copy of the calendar.

I created this blog to keep track of everyone's thoughts and resources as we complete the book study!  I know that I will find an abundance of resources as many educators collaborate throughout this process.  Feel free to comment with links so we can add them to our website and return for them as the school year progresses!

Here is a  great website to peruse as we wait to get started!  Don't forget to visit the Sisters
Finally, if you don't already have copies, The Daily Five and The Cafe Book, can be purchased on Amazon.
